Join me January 13th on the beach for a Wolf Full Moon Drumming Circle
The first full moon of the year is a Wolf Moon in water sign Cancer. What does that mean for the essence of your spirit? Let’s find out!

This is going to be an interesting experience. I promise. There are a few layers to pull back on this. I’ll start with the Wolf Moon. Then I’ll go into the zodiac sign Cancer, and finish with drumming circles.
Wolf Moon
The spiritual significance of a full Wolf Moon, according to Pop Sugar is:
It encourages you to focus on your emotional well-being, family connections, and creating a sense of security. To harness the energy of this wolf moon and set the tone for the rest of the year, consider envisioning the changes you’d like to make to your living space, identifying routines that will strengthen your connections with loved ones, and recognizing the boundaries necessary to prioritize rest and relaxation throughout the year.
We’ll have ample opportunity to do that on January 13th. The drumming circle meets at 6:00pm, but if you’d like to join me at 5:30, we’ll spend some time journaling, writing down our intentions to nurture our family connections.
I’m biased, of course, toward dedicating rest and relaxation time with MASSAGE (but hey, what did you expect from a massage therapist?)
In addition, according to Sage Goddess (whom I adore),
Wolves are guardians of the night who sing their praises to the Moon. Their wild communal dance under the full moon is a sacred ritual dutifully performed since time immemorial.
The Moon is a reflection of our mysterious nature, and some call it the home of our heart and soul. You can harness the power of the Moon by charging your crystals and tools under the full moon.
If you have crystals and healing stones, like the malachite I gifted you at your first visit to Joyful Rising, bring them to charge on January 13th.
Cancer
The Old Farmer’s Almanac provides a good description of Sun Sign Cancer:
Cancerians are symbolized by the crab, a creature with a hard shell and soft underbelly. This reflects the duality of Cancer’s personality: they are tough and protective on the outside but nurturing and emotional on the inside.
Personally, I find Cancers predictable. You always know where they’re not going and that’s straight ahead where they’re looking.
Ruled by the emotional Moon, Cancers wear their hearts on their sleeves. They possess a deep well of intuition, allowing them to understand others’ feelings and their own. Their emotional depth can lead to mood swings, but their compassion and strong bonds with loved ones make them fiercely loyal friends and family members.
Drumming circles
That brings me to drumming. While Women of Grace seem to be shaming other cultures, especially Pagans, for drumming, according to their website:
Drumming circles are shamanic in origin and are used by indigenous people for a variety of purposes. For instance, Native Americans used them in the pow-wow, which is described as a personal, social and spiritual gathering meant to celebrate the tribe’s connection with the Earth, one another, and their traditions. The drum is an integral part of this gathering “for it carries the heartbeat of the Indian nation,” explained one Native American site. “It is also felt to carry the heartbeat of Mother Earth, and thus calls the spirits and nations together.”
I totally dig it, but I’m partial to nature-based religion anyway.
Women of Grace further cites:
Mickey Hart, the drummer for the Grateful Dead, in an address he made to the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging in 1991:
“Typically, people gather to drum in drum ‘circles’ with others from the surrounding community. The drum circle offers equality because there is no head or tail. It includes people of all ages. The main objective is to share rhythm and get in tune with each other and themselves. To form a group consciousness. To entrain and resonate. By entrainment, I mean that a new voice, a collective voice, emerges from the group as they drum together.”
I bet some of you have done this. If this is really different, come try. The worst thing that’ll happen is you’ll meet new people who like percussion and honor their Wild Inner Wolf.
If all of this sounds like a fantastic way to honor the new you in the new year, then by all means, meet me at the Hollywood Beach Drumming Circle on January 13, at 5:30. Their Facebook group link is here. If you have any percussive instrument, bring it. Otherwise, just come. Mitchell will have extra drums.
