We’ve covered five things so far that boost energy naturally from sunlight and laughter to movement, gratitude, and meditation. Today’s post is about spending quiet time in nature.

I recently watched The Earthing Movie. How putting bare feet to Mother Earth yields such healing benefits is hard to put into believable words. Please just watch the movie.

The bottom line is inflammation is a chronic menace that causes deadly diseases.

One super fast, super easy, and accessible way to beat inflammation is standing barefoot on the Earth. The film shows how it all works – electromagnetic streams from the sun pass through earth’s ionosphere and turn the bad ions into good ions.

Humans wear slippers, socks, shoes, sandals, and whatnot all the time and never make raw contact with the earth. This neverending insulation means we never get to convert our electromagnetic stream into the right charge.

What happens when we go barefoot?

When we do go barefoot, the earth instantaneously transforms the damaging ions into good ions and reduces inflammation. This transformation allows our blood to flow more freely and our vital organs to function more efficiently. That’s an amazing thing!

On my wishlist is a grounding mat for my bed. Inflammation be gone!

Did I try going barefoot? Yes.

In mid-August, I attended a networking event downtown Fort Lauderdale. When it was over, the sun hovered low in the western sky. I wasn’t quite ready to go home, so I drove down Las Olas Boulevard toward the beach. Once I got to Tarpon Drive, I swerved right to take a look at a tiny park on the Intracoastal Waterway that I used to spend time in.

The park is adjacent to the Presbyterian churchyard, and right across the narrow waterway is an impressive line of mansions. Many of the homeowners have boat docks and light them up. Sharing light in the dark is a generous thing to do, especially since you can never know who or how many others are benefiting.

As I parked and noticed a number of people enjoying the outdoors, I decided I’d go barefoot for a few minutes. I walked over the grass, patches of rich earth, and exposed tree roots, to an empty bench. I sat on the wooden slats to take in the view, but I got more than that.

There was no birdsong, but children’s squeals as their father showed off his catch of fish in a blue bucket. Another trio of women ran around with two dogs, one hefty and the other much smaller.

As the clouds shifted to cotton candy pink against a deepening blue sky, I breathed in the salt hanging in the air. I slipped off my lace-up sandals and rested my bare soles on the soft grass. In some way, the very act was no different from resting my bare soul against nature’s bosom.

Our planet absorbs our full weight, meaning Mother Earth always supports us completely. This reliability goes unrecognized. I take her for granted, and I shouldn’t. In this moment, I acknowledge and thank Earth for all she is, all she gives, and all she sustains.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton, I know Nature isn’t always benign and serene. Natural disasters devastate families and communities, but when she is calm, Nature gives abundantly. For this, I’m thankful.

Since I hadn’t measured my level of inflammation before or after standing barefoot, it’s impossible for me to know if it worked. Except for one thing. I felt inseparable from life and that elevated my energy in ways that can’t be measured.
