Women begin losing bone density in their mid-30s. What can be done to slow it down, stop it, and even reverse it?
OsteoStrong is a membership-based fitness center dedicated to bone strength. While an osteopathic physician is not on site, there is a circuit of machinery for members to use with a guide.
My guide was Dawn Holey. She’s a petite lady. Dawn took me by surprise with her endless well of bursting energy.
According to the educational materials that Dawn gave me, bones are strengthened primarily by applied force. This was documented by NASA.
The alarming truth is that women begin losing bone density in their mid-30s and that loss can lead to osteoporosis.
Dawn led me to a chaise lounge with an Omnium Pulsed EMF “blanket” while she attended to another member. The pulsed EMF promotes healing and osteogenesis, which is bone regeneration. It’s a noninvasive treatment for fresh bone fractures, diabetic osteopenia, osteoporosis, osteonecrosis, and osteoarthritis. I was perfectly comfortable for the duration.
What my experience was like
My circuit began with a vibrational warm up on the Vibe Plate. I held the rails while the machine vibrated until I got that tingling sensation in my nose. That was actually fun and indulged my inner child. I almost wanted to spin around until I was too dizzy to stand, but it was adulting time after all.
Dawn led me to another machine to test the bone strength of my arms. That took five seconds, and then the goal was to withstand applied force of double that. Another five or ten seconds and it was over.
Painless and easy.
The next machine tested my legs – femurs, tibias, and fibulas. What I liked best about these machines was they’re stationary. There are few moving parts and, not only did I feel stable, I also felt in total control.
A pleasant surprise
Dawn led me to a back room for a water wave massage on their HydraTable. I didn’t have to undress and, after she disinfected the surface, I simply got on and lay back. She set the intensity to 5 for medium and it’s hard to describe what happened. Under the surface of the table, I felt a warm, watery, vibrational wave roll up from my ankles to calves to thighs and glutes. It continued up to each region of my body until it reached my scalp and rolled back down.
While I’m not crazy about threats to my occupation, I have to admit ten minutes on this table were pretty damn enjoyable. It didn’t address particular areas like feet, hands, quads or do any sort of detailed neck and shoulder work. But the therapeutic effects are undeniable.
Dawn came to collect me and sat me down at a table that had what looked like a computer screen with a Tesla coil in a display case. It’s called the BioCharger and it subtly transmits four types of energy, including sound frequency and light. You can program it to address whatever ails you.
More painless and easy.
A member was using the Far Infrared room, so I didn’t get to see inside or experience it, but you can read more about the alleged health benefits from Mayo Clinic.
The closing finish
Dawn led me back to the Vibe Plate to test my balance. Imagine my surprise when I could stand on one leg without wobbling for more than 30 seconds. Well done, body.
While insurance doesn’t cover visits to OsteoStrong, you can use your HSA or FSA to pay for membership. It’s totally worth the small investment of time every week to remain standing strong.

Hi April. I don’t think you realized it, but the pressure you put through your bones using our equipment sent a signal to your body to strengthen your bones. We weren’t simply measuring your bone strength. Weekly use of our equipment during our coach guided sessions has led to bone density improvements for most of our members.
Hello Dawn,
Thank you so much for the correction. It’s important for people to have accurate information, and I appreciate that.
