Local pricing for a classic relaxation massage like Swedish can vary. But WHY?

Why is a Swedish Massage $120 at Joyful Rising Massage Therapy? A number of factors lead to pricing. We’ll explore some of those factors and by the end, you’ll see the value in choosing Joyful Rising for your massage therapy kneads (kneads, needs. Get it?). Sorry, no more corny jokes. Let’s get on with it.
Experience and Track Record
I’ve been practicing as a licensed massage therapist going on 16 years. In all that time, I’ve never caused an injury. Trust me when I tell you, there are horror stories in this profession from burns to bruises. The overwhelming majority of clients served have been impressed with my professionalism, technique, pressure, and ability to make them feel relaxed. I take great pride in that.
Revenue per Square Foot
Every retail business measures revenue per square foot. The more square footage wasted for the sake of ambience means the higher the prices of services and retail products have to be. For example, high end spas with 30,000+ square feet charge over $200 for a 50-minute Swedish massage. They automatically add a 20% service charge, which they split with the service provider.
Their treatment rooms are decked out with all the most expensive equipment. Fully adjustable tables with heat built in start at $10,000 (per table).
They have managers, supervisors, a director, front desk staff, laundry attendants, male and female locker room attendants, and cleaning crew. All that support staff do not generate revenue, which bumps up the price spa goers have to pay.
Joyful Rising’s 180 square-foot massage studio is nestled inside Beautification & Co. Suites. Beautification & Co. is home to several wellness and beauty companies. We are independent of corporate overlords and run our individual businesses. My space is not cramped or cluttered and can accommodate a couple for side-by-side massage. Not only that, I decorated it myself with carefully chosen design elements. I run my business my way, which is to say in partnership with each and every client.
I don’t lord my superior knowledge and expertise over my clients, nor do I let clients run over me.
True Story:
I saw a comment on LinkedIn from a massage therapist in which he bragged he decides what’s best for his clients and they do whatever he tells them.
Bully for him. My approach is different. Some people are unaware of what they need. Others know their bodies incredibly well. It’s my job to find out whether you’re deferring to my expertise, or whether you want to retain more control over how the session goes. My philosophy is this: a request that’s ethical, legal, within the scope of my license, and profitable gets a YES.
Sanitation and Hygiene
We use 1Touch Cleaning Service to keep the space impeccably clean and sanitized. I’d like to say that we have a drop off laundry service, but it’s just me lugging dirty laundry home, and lugging clean laundry back.
Our sheets go in the bin for laundering after every single appointment. Everything (stones, towels, neck wrap, etc.) that touches your skin is clean and sanitary – and that includes my hands.
These are costs that you don’t want me to skimp on. So I don’t skimp.
My Favorite Part
What really makes Joyful Rising Massage Therapy stand apart is our impressive array of customization options. Other places charge extra for add-ons. I don’t. You get to choose at least one add-on with a classic massage, and it’s included.
I get the warm fuzzies from empowering my clients, which is why our consultation before your service begins is so important.
During consultation, I ask what your goals are for the service. If your muscles need therapeutic relief, I have add-ons for that. If your primary concern is relaxation, pampering, and a sense of well-being, I have add-ons for that.
The add-on is included at no additional charge. The results are priceless.
You want deep? I’ll go deep properly to minimize soreness the day after. Don’t take my word for it. Here’s a client feeling renewed.
You want moderate pressure? I’ll go moderate.
Your face is dry? I have hydration face masks.
The skin on your back has been neglected? I’ll do a back exfoliation. (It’s DIVINE, just saying.)
You love your feet pampered and silky? I have sugar scrub and warm shea butter moisture treatment.
You want a unique transformative experience that’ll leave you literally feeling brand new? Try a Signature service like Mind-Body Integration.
What I’m trying to say is, your goal is my goal. Don’t worry; I got you.

Most Importantly
My license is current, active, and clear. Joyful Rising is small, but it’s totally legitimate. It’s a name you can trust.
You can rest assured that:
- You’ll be seen, heard, and respected
- We will never knowingly disappoint you
- Your service will be adjusted or modified to accommodate certain medical conditions so you’re always safe.
- Your privacy will always be respected.
To Sum It Up
There are cut rate massage studios nearby, but I’m not worried about them. They don’t tend to the necessary details the way I do. They cut rates because they cut corners on cleaning, quality, professionalism, and God knows what else.
Once you experience Joyful Rising, you’ll know in your bones that my prices are fair. You get great value for safety, results, experience, ambience, decor, professionalism, quality, sanitation, cleanliness, and respect. The great value doesn’t end at a Swedish massage. My pricing is reasonable across the board. I’m confident you’ll answer the question, “Why is a Swedish Massage $120 at Joyful Rising Massage Therapy?” with a resounding “The peace of mind is worth it!”
